Perdonen por el comentario en ingles, este idioma que perpetua nuestro trauma historico. Queríamos hacerles llegar nuestras palabras solidarias habiendo sobrevivido la misma mierda del FBI. Representamos al prisionero politico indigena Leonard Peltier, condenado a dos cadenas perpetuas por la muerte de 2 agentes del FBI que iniciaron un ataque similar al que termino con el asesinato de Don Filiberto.

On Friday September 23rd, 2005, a day in which Puerto Rico celebrated the 137th anniversary of its independence from Spain, a day when the people renew their struggle against colonialism in all its forms, the US government sent its forces to strike right at the heart of the boricua people. As hundreds gathered to hear the recorded words of Filiberto Ojeda Rios exhorting all to unite for truth, justice and a better life for the hard working people of that beautiful island, the FBI executed a paramilitary operation, surrounded Ojeda Rios’ house and started shooting hundreds of rounds, just like they did in the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation on June 26th, 1975. He tried to defend himself and his family, just as our beloved warrior Leonard Peltier did, and was murdered by an FBI sniper, just like our own Joe Stuntz. The colonial forces then blocked access to ambulances and anybody who could help so that Filiberto would bleed to death. There was no need to kill this man. Even in the colonial courts he had been absolved from any wrong doing and had only been accused of robbery. He was considered a fugitive because he removed the electronic anklet used to track him and lived in hiding tending his garden in the mountains. The government’s real reason for targeting him was that he wanted to lead the people towards freedom from colonialism and justice. We need to understand that this is the reality and it makes all of us who struggle for justice potential targets. Just as Don Filiberto called for the unity of the Puerto Rican independentista movement, we must also unite through the threads of our collective history of struggle.
We do not need to use our imagination to see that this is a long standing modus operandi of the US government and its leading paramilitary agency. The only difference is that today this terror is wanton and global. When will the so called “american people” wake up from the stupor of their indulgences and comfort to put a stop to this? They are the only ones that can rein in the monster that goes on killing and destroying in their name. For the sake of the planet, our mother Earth, the international community also has the responsibility to face the real criminals and let them know their behavior is intolerable and must cease immediately. After centuries of the same “practices”, our colonial oppressors should wise up and learn they do not work. Our thirst for justice is not placated through more injustice, the murder and imprisonment of our leaders, this only deepens it. Those of us who are left are guided by those brave spirits and so inspired. If they gave so much, how can we be in peace doing nothing? Their call, from the Spirit World and from behind the iron bars and stun lethal fences, is irrepressible.

Filiberto Ojeda Ríos: Cruzó al Mundo del Espíritu como un guerrero |
El Leonard Peltier Defense Committe (Comité Defensa de Leonard Peltier) enérgicamente condena el asesinato del líder independentidta puertorriqueño Filiberto ojeda Ríos por parte del FBI y urge a sus favorecedores a entender los paralelos con nuestra historia y se solidariza con los luchadores por la libertad de Puerto Rico.
El viernes, 23 de septiembre de 2005, el día en que Puerto Rico celebraba el 137 aniversario de su independencia de España, el día en que el pueblo renueva su lucha contra el colonialismo en todas sus formas, el gobierno de Estados Unidos envió a sus fuerzas a golpear en el mismo centro del corazón de los boricuas. Mientras cientos se reunían para oír la grabación de Filiberto Ojeda Ríos exhortando a la unidad por la verdad, la justicia y una mejor vida para el pueblo trabajador de esa hermosa isla, el FBI ejecutó una operación paramilitar, rodeó la residencia de Ojeda Ríos y comenzó a disparar cientos de descargas, como hicieron en la Pine Ridge Indian Reservation (Reservación India Pine Ridge) el 26 de junio de 1975. Trató de defenderse y defender a su familia, como hizo nuestro amado guerrero Leonard Peltier, y fue asesinado por un francotirador del FBI, como nuestro Joe Stuntz. La fuerzas coloniales entonces impidieron el acceso a las ambulancias y a cualquiera que pudiera ayudar a evitar que Filiberto se desangrara. No había necesidad de asesinar a este hombre. Hasta en las cortes coloniales había sido absuelto de delito alguno y había sido solo acusado de robo (1). El era considerado un fugitivo porque se había quitado un grillete electrónico usado para rastrearle, y vivía escondido cuidando su jardín en las montañas. La verdadera razón del gobierno para "targetearlo"(2) era que quería liderear a su pueblo hacia la libertad y la justicia. Debemos entender que esta es la realidad y nos convierte en "targetas" potenciales a todos aquellos que luchamos por la justicia. Así como Don Filiberto hizo un llamado a la unidad del independentismo puertorriqueño, así mismo nosotros debiéramos unirnos en nuestra histórica lucha colectiva.
No tenemos que usar nuestra imaginación para ver que ese es desde hace mucho tiempo el modus operandi del gobierno de Estados Unidos y su principal agencia paramilitar. La única diferencia es que hoy este terror es desenfrenado y global. ¿Cuando el llamado "pueblo americano" saldrá de su estupor de su indulgencia y su confort para ponerle freno a esto? So ellos los que pueden frenar el monstruo que continúa matando y destruyendo en su nombre. Por el bien del planeta, nuestra Madre Tierra, la comunidad internacional también tiene la responsabilidad de enfrentar los criminales reales y dejarles saber que su comportamiento es intolerable y debe cesar de inmediato. Tras siglos de las mismas "prácticas", nuestros opresores coloniales debieran entender que no funcionan. Nuestra sed de justicia no se aplaca con más injusticia, el asesinato y la encarcelación de nuestros líderes, sólo la agranda. Los que quedamos somos guiados e inspirados por esos bravos espíritus. ¿Si ellos dieron tanto, como podíamos estar en paz haciendo nada? Su llamado, desde el Mundo del Espíritu y detrás de las barras de hierros, es irreprimible.

NOTAS:
(1) Ya en el clandestinaje desde 1990 Filiberto fue juzgado en ausencia y hallado culpable de robo, conspiración y transportación de dinero robado. El caso era el del asalto a la Wells Fargo en Hartford Connecticut en 1983. Le echaron 55 años de cárcel tras un juicio totalmente amañado y desacreditado que se efectuó en dicha ciudad en 1992. Fue entonces que se expidió la orden de arresto que el FBI cambió a orden de asesinato, la que ejecutaron el 23 de septiembre de 2005.
